Stainless for Open Source: Starter plan free for approved noncommercial open-source API projects
Stainless waives its Starter plan for qualifying noncommercial open-source projects. The service generates and maintains API client libraries, with documentation and MCP-server generators also available in the platform. Confirm the exact generators and Starter limits included in the approved sponsorship.
How to claim this perk
Follow these steps through Stainless for Open Source.
Access: Direct application
- 1
Create a free Stainless account using the official pricing-page signup.
- 2
Find Can I get free SDKs for non-commercial open-source projects? and contact the provider with the project details.
- 3
After approval, verify Starter activation and the included generators, endpoint limits and any overage charges before publishing SDKs.
Who can apply?
- Qualifying noncommercial free/open-source project. Create the free Stainless account before requesting the Starter sponsorship.
- Use the project-contact link in the pricing FAQ to describe the API and request OSS approval. GitHub authentication is required for account setup.
- The FAQ does not give a sponsorship duration or override all Starter endpoint/generator/CI limits. Obtain written scope; do not assume unlimited generators or waived overages.
- Keep sponsorship separate from the ordinary free tier and thirty-day paid-feature trial. Changes beyond the sponsored plan can require paid terms.
